Simon Holdermann studierte zunächst Kultur- und Sozialanthropologie sowie Allgemeine Religionswissenschaft an der Universität Münster (B.A.) und danach Ethnologie an der Universität zu Köln (M.A.), mit Auslandsaufenthalten an der Uppsala Universitet, Schweden und University of California, Berkeley, USA.
