Workshop “Professional Presentations at Conferences and in the Academic World” – Dr. Carrie B. Dohe
Since 2012, Dr. Carrie B. Dohe has coached hundreds of graduate students, postdocs and even professors on mastering the skills necessary to get through their projects as easily and efficiently as possible. She has gotten top funding (DAAD, German Research Foundation), two coveted postdoctoral positions (Universities of Marburg and Toronto), and a book contract with the leading academic publishing house Routledge.
This workshop focuses on how scholars can best convey the value and significance of their work through oral communication, emphasizing not only typical structures of thought and expressions in English, but also an audience’s expectations.
Numerous exersices will provide the participants with skills in the following areas:
- attention-getting openers and strong conclusions
- signposting language
- professional discussion and question-and-answer practice
- gender-specific issues in presenting
- tips for online presentations
