Part I Open to scholars of all levels
9:30- 10:30
As a continuation of Susan Slymovics lecture the previous evening, she introduces her work via a close reading of one case study or a monument that she examines in her book.
Short break
Part II For registered Masterclass participants only
11:00-12:00
Focused discussion of Susan Slyomovics’s book Monuments Decolonized. Students’ questions (collected beforehand) will be organized under thematic clusters such as mobility, decolonization, memory, materiality, and methodology and will be posed in class to have a discussion on each theme.
12:00- 13:00 practical exercise:
Each student-participant brings one material trace from their own research, such as a photo of a monument, ruin, building, or object that carries a contested or ambivalent memory. Individually or in small groups of four or five, they place their case alongside your Algeria material: is it preserved, reused, erased? Who claims it? This would give space to students who wish to shed a brief light on their own projects.
13:00- 13:30 Free questions, comments, and discussion.
