Lecture Series “Data Ethnography” – Arjun Appadurai (New York University): “Digitality, Memory and Failure”
Tuesday Keynote, 6:15pm: "Digitality, Memory and Failure"
The digital world in both its Silicon Valley and Wall Street manifestations has turned us into users, testers and designers, who allow corporate interests to endlessly refine their products, make them obsolescent and persuade us to upgrade to new forms of convenience, risk and connectivity. One effect of this logic is to habituate us to the experience of failure as customers and users and to train us to forget recent failures so that we can face new ones, throughout blaming ourselves rather than those who profit from this logic.
